Mentor: someone who teaches or gives help and advice to a less experienced and often younger person (www.merriam-webster.com)
I am a firm believer that men should teach a young boy how to be a man. We live in a matriarchal society in which mothers are often left with the responsibility of raising our young men alone. While we applaud and appreciate the efforts of these strong women, it’s time that we as men, step up and provide the guidance, direction and teachings to our young men; not only in our homes, but in our community.
Men Raising Men (MRM) mentoring program is designed to provide guidance and teach young men how to be more respectful, responsible and resourceful; how to be confident, consistent and communicate; how to be providers and protectors. It’s important that we raise our men to be upstanding members of our community and understand accountability through values & morals.
Men Raising Men will consist of a 6 week program in which young males will meet to engage in conversation and activities that promote respect, responsibility, confidence, courage, communication, financial responsibility and more. There is a $20 registration fee per male which help cover the cost of food, activities, supplies and more. We have been fortunate enough to have individuals who has agreed to sponsor young males, so if you are faced with financial challenges, please let us know. We truly do not want $20 to be the reason a child is not provided this opportunity.
MRM will target males aged 12 & older and will be led by accomplished, established, and dedicated men in our communities that are committed to providing direction and leadership. MRM program will meet every Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Artists Loft / 2206 Hunting Park Ave/ 2nd Floor/ Philadelphia, PA (beginning December 2, 2017) and end approximately 4:00pm.
Some of the components that will make up the teachings of MRM:
- Brotherhood / Networking
- Communication/Confidence/Consistent/ Community
- Women (Valuing our Sisters)
- Financial Education & Planning
